Dear Sir or Madam, Today is the 'official' launch of the Burley in Wharfedale Census 1901 Website. This website provides FREE access to a database containing the complete Census results for the village of Burley in Wharfedale taken in March 1901.
The Census database can be searched by surname, address, birthplace, occupation or street map and provides detailed information about each individual and household in the village. Comprehensive Census statistics are also included and show a snapshot of life in the village over 100 years ago. In addition, a discussion forum is provided to exchange information, opinions, comments or suggestions on any topic related to the people and places described in the Census. So, whatever your interest, be it genealogy, local history or just plain curiosity why not visit http://www.burleycensus.net/ and see what you can discover. This autumn, the BBC launches one of the biggest-ever initiatives designed to help people learn more about their family history. Who Do You Think You Are? is a ten part BBC2 series that follows some familiar figures as they investigate their ancestors' lives. Complementing the series will be BBC4 programmes, websites, leaflets and information packs, events and open days at archives around the country. Burley in the Second World War is the theme of this months exhibition in Burley Library. The library is open Tuesday afternoon, all day Friday and Saturday morning. The exhibition closes at the end of September. Have fun! Cheers, Garry
