Burley In Wharfedale Census

Newsletter No. 2

No.2 /  January 2005

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the second edition of the 'Burley Census Website' Newsletter.

The past four months have been very busy and you'll be pleased to know that the Burley Census Website has been significantly updated to include a host of new features and enhancements. Check it out at:

www.burleycensus.net

As well as the full 1901 census, the website now provides FREE access to a Census Index containing the name, age and birthplace of every resident in the censuses of 1851, 1871 and 1891. Searching by surname or birthplace now allows any individual to be traced across all four censuses simultaneously.

And that's not all! The website now contains the following new features:

  • Some 300 old photographs/postcards of Burley In Wharfedale & Burley Woodhead;
  • Searchable 1901 census maps of Park Row and North View;
  • Family histories of former Burley residents;
  • More statistics, including a comparison of data across all four censuses;
  • plus many many more small improvements and enhancements.

There has been a massive response to the website since its launch in September 2004 (over 5500 unique visits) with respondents from as far afield as Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Thanks to everyone who has contacted me with their comments and contributions. I would particularly welcome contributions of old photographs, family histories or any other documents for possible inclusion on the website (I will copy and return any material within a day or so if needs be).

Whatever your interest, be it genealogy, local history or just plain curiosity why not revisit http://www.burleycensus.net/ and see what you can discover. While you're there, please take a minute to complete the 'VISITOR SURVEY', which can be accessed from the website's homepage.

So, who do you think you are?

Have fun!

Cheers,

Garry
